Week 19... Americana

I'm not one of those who pile on the Waffle House with terms like "Awful House". Granted I wouldn't want to eat there everyday but as far as good breakfast goes especially after a active previous night there is no place better.

I just like everything about the Waffle House. The waitresses are always so nice. They had the original "Open" kitchen concept. They should have trademarked that concept. Not to mention the people watching where you get all types of people in. If you want to see what a ordinary hard working American looks like then go the Waffle House.

After we were seated, we proceeded with the classic one page plastic sealed menu. Becky ordered her usual egg, tomatoes, and toast. Maeve and Grace ordered Hash Browns ( covered and smothered). Bridget had fried eggs, bacon, and covered/chunked. I had the Texas Toast egg sandwich with covered and chunked.

As always the food was excellent. I just can't think of a better place for breakfast. Everybody enjoyed their meal. The only issue we had was that getting our check was a hassle as our waitress was working very hard and just couldn't get to us. otherwise it was great.

Week 18...Wide Right

The kick is up and it is "wide right". Two words that will always haunt any Buffalo Bills fan. Well we experienced our own culinary missed FG. The gang traveled this week to Stop n Go Wings and Deli.

Stop N Go reminds me of my days in Ireland at the late night Chipper Vans. Basically they have a deep fryer and a grill, and its all hidden from the general public. Never a good sign. The menu is smorgasbord of burgers, chicken, et al.

Maeve ordered the Chicken finger combo. I have never seen a brownish tint chicken finger. She made it through a half of one finger and left the other 4 in the basket. Becky had the Chicken Gyro combo. She had about half and left the rest. I had the Philly and Wings combo served with fries. I actually thought the cheese steak was not bad. However the wings left much to be desired.

So needless to say we weren't very happy with journey to Stop n Go. Becky had it ranked just a notch above the Jack in the Box from week 2.

Week 17.... NOLA BBQ

Coming up on our third year in South Carolina, one thing I really enjoy about living down here is BBQ. There are so many fantastic BBQ joints in the area. So in order to breakthrough you have to be exceptional. So this week the gang journeyed to Voodoo BBQ and Grill

It is a counter service type restaurant where you order at the counter and they bring it to the table. This I find makes for faster turnaround versus a traditional waiter/waitress service. Maeve and I ordered Signature Pulled Pork Platters and Becky had the Smoked Chicken Breast Platter.

While I am not a fan of huge portions, I actually thought the serving was on the lean side. With that said the food was very good. The BBQ sauces were a excellent compliment. Everybody also enjoyed their sides.

Unlike some BBQ joints in town, Voodoo does serve beers which I enjoy with my BBQ. Overall I would recommend Voodoo but it wouldn't be on top of my Greenville BBQ list. However, it is close to the house so it is a good go to place for us.
